Gallery I: Our Town

Group exhibition featuring work by Martha Cooper, Robert Goldman (Bobby G), Rick Prol, Louis Renzoni, Walter Robinson and James Romberger.Dorian Grey Gallery is pleased to present Our Town. This exhibition explores visions of our fair city by six noted New York artists.

OUR TOWN

The poor man's humid tangle
The rich guy's grubby bets
The tough kid up from the San Juan stucco
to the big city lights in shiny trunks and red laced boots

The scuffed cracked cat, wild-eyed with fear
Splayed against the corner street sign
Bleecker and Lafayette
Thou shalt not proceed or pass

Hi-fi lovers pressed into a frame of gamblers and debt
Loan sharks and petty thieves
Barabus, Jesus and the holy crew
Wish and pray for a better New York

Roofs piled high with tar and pigeon droppings
Coops aglow with Robin Hood and Sherwood Forest
It seems so far away now
That dream of soaring and flying high, higher, highest

Our town transformed to a day
When life will be good
And the town will be settled
And the saints and sinners will smile again

Gallery II: NEW SPIRIT

Dorian Grey Gallery is excited to announce the first exhibition for the 2016 calendar: New Spirit. The New Year ushers in new opportunities, new directions and new artists all coming together for a New Spirit of creativity. Opening on Thursday January 14th, 2016, the New Spirit exhibition will present recent paintings and a special series of collaboration paintings between artists John Paul O’Grodnick (JPO), Sean Sullivan ( Layercake) and Mike Mozart ( MiMo). All three artists all have established followings as professional painters, exhibited extensively and are well known for their street art and pop culture influenced compositions. It’s important to note that although each artist is stylistically unique they have found common ground to create paintings that successfully exemplify artistic partnerships. The Dorian Grey Gallery is proud to host the first reception for these three artists and usher in a New Spirit in street inspired collaborations!

About MiMo:

Mike Mozart is a huge internet sensation with over 30 years of diverse artistic creations. Well regarded as an accomplished illustrator, painter, and author, he is the founder of Jeepers Media and Toy Channel (both on You Tube) with over a million fans following his a reviews and media posts. MiMo has been painting for decades but started experimenting in the early 1990’s with graffiti art and different spray paint techniques and faux finishes. Recently his artistic collaborations with West Coast based artist, ALEC Monopoly, concluded and MiMO began to pursue independent projects that fuse a street inspired vibe with classic animated pop culture characters. His latest body of work brings together a series of hand rendered paintings featuring such well known characters such as Richie Rich, Mr. Monopoly, Scrooge McDuck, and others. MiMo’s work was featured at Dorian Grey Gallery in Miami and sold out during ART Basel/ Miami Art week 2015!

About Layercake:

LAYER CAKE, New York born, Sean Sullivan (aka Layer Cake) is a multi -faceted artist involved in music production, clothing, and his signature style stencil art. His clothing designs incorporate his love for fine/graffiti art and this has influenced how he approaches paintings on canvas. Many of his mixed media paintings contain iconic "pop culture" characters pulled from TV or period magazines such as Speed Racer, Pink Panther and Popeye. His composition are deep with texture, built up with layers of vintage comic book pages, creating a substrate of eye catching collages that are then completed with his trade mark stencil compositions. Dorian Grey Gallery has exhibited works in both the Westhampton & New York gallery locations and recently during ART Basel/ Miami Art week 2015.

About: JPO:

John Paul O'Grodnick was born and raised in Fairfield County Connecticut. Early influences were jazz music, pop art and specifically the works of New York artists, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. He began painting in his mid twenties and has evolved stylistically through many of his life experiences since moving to New York. In addition to music, John also advocates meditation and believes through his practice that he learned how to open up his mind and channel his third eye. John uses these methods throughout the entirety of the painting process. His painting has been described as a fusion of "beautiful dirty industrial street art" , a harmonious blend of spray paint and abstract elements. He would define himself as "different, creative and outgoing". Others would comment on his undeniable sense of humor, his intense passion, and intelligence. JPO has exhibited extensively throughout the country, recent commissions include a street art fused line of clothing for the GAP, and successful exhibitions during ARTBasel, Miami FL, Wall Works, Bronx NY and now Dorian Grey.
